The weather in Shanghai has been so far fairly windy and wet, it is rare to catch a good day to go out and look at the many sights to see. It seems that everyone here owns an umbrella and raincoat.
It has been raining almost incessantly here in Shanghai since I came here, and the weather isn't expected to clear for a week. If you are thinking of visiting Shanghai, expect to put up with extreme weather. In Summer, the heat has been known to go all the way up to 39 degrees Celsius, where the city authorities actually had to put buckets of ice onto the subways for the broken air-conditioning. As hot as it gets in the Summer, it also becomes freezing in Winter. This year, in January, the weather dropped to -15 degrees Celsius, when I decided to stay inside for the day.
On the cold days, it is great to go out to the many restaurants and cafes, and grab a green tea or pearl milk tea which is very popular in Shanghai. I have learnt that pearl milk tea is a popular beverage that includes jelly or pudding-like bubbles in sweetened milk tea. I have enjoyed drinking it but I think that I would rather stick to the drinks from where I come from, as it has a slightly bitter aftertaste.
Shanghai weather is not the best, when the weather isn't too hot or cold, or raining, the sky can be overcast for many days at a time. This is very bad for sightseeing and visiting various places, but if the locals can learn to live with it, then the tourists can too.
